Filing under way for August primary

Filing for the Aug. 5 primary election for county, state and federal offices opened last week and will continue until 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 25.

Three County Council seats are up for election. Candidates filing include:

District 2 — Democrat Carl M. Johnson, 1901 Ashby Road, 63114. County Council Chairman Kathleen Burkett, D-Overland, currently holds the District 2 seat. She had not filed as of press time.

District 4 — Democratic incumbent Mike O’Mara of north county.

District 6 — Republican incumbent John Campisi of south county and Democrat Steve Stenger, 9322 Rambler Drive, 63123.

Two candidates have filed for the District 1 state Senate seat currently held by Democrat Harry Kennedy of St. Louis, who cannot seek re-election because of term limits: former Democratic state Rep. Joan Barry, 5050 Lampglow Court, 63129, and current District 85 state Rep. Jim Lembke, R-Le-may.

Candidates filing for Missouri House seats up for election in south county include:

District 66 — Republican Jerry Morgan, 8377 Lonkar Drive, 63123, and Democratic incumbent Michael Vogt.

District 85 — Republican Cloria Brown, 3306 Lone Elm Drive, 63125, and Democrats Vicki Lorenz Englund, 4539 Valmeyer Drive, 63128, and Ron Wagganer, 149 Jefferson Barracks Drive, 63125.

District 95 — Republican incumbent Jim Avery of Crestwood.

District 96 — Democratic incumbent Patricia “Pat” Yaeger of Lemay.

District 97 — Republican Donald Hos-kins, 3860 Old Baumgartner Road, 63129, and Republican incumbent Walt Bivins of Oakville. Also filing was former Mehlville Board of Education member and former Democratic state Rep. Jan Polizzi, 5953 Shortleaf Court, 63128.

District 100 —Democratic incumbent Sue Schoemehl of Oakville.

In the race for the U.S. representative District 2 seat currently held by Republican Todd Akin of St. Louis, Democratic candidates filing include: David L. Pentland of St. Louis, John Hogan of St. Charles, Mike Garman of O’Fallon, Byron DeLear of Chesterfield and William C. “Bill” Haas of St. Louis. Akin had not filed as of press time.

In the race for the U.S. representative District 3 seat currently held by Democrat Russ Carnahan, Republican Chris Sander of St. Louis has filed. Carnahan had not filed as of press time.
