Equations event equals success for Sperreng

Lindbergh students were up to the challenge when they participated in the recent Equations Competition at Washington Uni-versity.

The Equations Competition involved the area’s brightest students from more than 40 schools and five Sperreng Middle School teams competed. The competition encourages students to use creative thinking to solve advanced problems.

The sixth-grade team of Jim Haviland, Dan Leimberg, Kate Nolan, Jonathan Mor-ris and Andrew Brimer, and the seventh- and eighth-grade team of Dan Viox, Tim Kendrick, Ian Rinehart, Chris Lang and Jacob Ruf both placed in the top three teams in the competition.

Other teams competing at the top level include the sixth-grade team of Katlyn Heuvelman, Frank Albenesius, Justin Mey-er, Ali Raeber and Jim Skouby. Two seventh- and eighth-grade teams also were at the top level: Liz Bergmann, Jeff Panhorst, Celeste Karasek, Michael Lyons and Ian Tucker; and Tim Clayton, Louis Ingenthron, Kevin Knuepfer, Vidhi Srivastava and Kelly Swartzbaugh.

Brimer and Kendrick were recognized for achieving perfect scores of all first places in the competition. Diane O’Leary, Sperreng gifted education teacher, is the team coach.
