Elected officials can be climate heroes for Earth Day, reader writes

To the editor:

I recently had the pleasure to meet with staff of U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill and U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt.

They impressed me how friendly, caring and open to listening to my message, as I lobbied them for climate action.

2016 was recently recorded as the hottest year on record since 1880, beating out the previous record-breaking hot years of 2015, 2014, 2010, 2005 and 1998.

This past winter, scientists observed an unusually warm weather in the Arctic.

Sadly, it could push the winter ice to a record low winter peak for the third year in a row.
U.S. military officials tell us global warming is a threat to our national security.

A total of 97 percent of climate scientists think it makes extreme weather worse, especially in unstable regions of the world and St. Louis.

The Catholic Church warns the poorest people are least prepared and most vulnerable to the consequences.

For Earth Day, we ask Sen. McCaskill, Sen. Blunt and Rep. Ann Wagner to support Citizens’ Climate Lobby’s carbon fee and dividend proposal, a conservative market-based solution to reduce the threat of climate change.
