Edward George Smith, 84, died Jan. 25.
Mr. Smith owned Saneco Cleaners, which began in 1950 when his father loaned him $100 and the former owner loaned the rest to take over the dry-cleaning business at 4040 S. Grand Ave. The business deal included a 1941 Chevy. Sanecos Oakville location at 5620 Telegraph Road opened on a country road in 1963.
Mr. Smith was a 50-year member of the Carondelet Lions Club and a 50-year member of the Algabil-Freedom No. 636 Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Betty Smith (nee Joyce); daughter, Sharon Parsons, sons, Donald Smith and David Smith; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mike Parsons.
Services and visitation were at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons, south county. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
