‘District’ sounds like a TV police drama, Crestwood resident says

To the editor:

Being a 50-year resident of Crestwood, I have seen many changes.

I have been following the articles on the redevelopment of our mall and love the idea of its revitalization. However, the suggested name, “The District,” is a very poor choice. It sounds stuffy. It doesn’t describe what you propose for this area. It doesn’t say, “Come see what great things we have to offer, have fun shopping, have a delicious meal; Come spend the afternoon or evening with us.”

Does “The District” sound upbeat or interesting? It sounds more like the name of a TV police drama. It definitely turned me off the minute I read it.

And I am not alone in my opinion.

Many Crestwood residents are opposed, not to your plans, but to the name. As suggested in a letter you published recently, there are many more imaginable and suitable names for your venture. I personally like the one suggested in Marilee Sauer’s recent letter, “The Hub in Crestwood.”

The dictionary defines hub as “a center of activity.” That is what we want to tell the public. I can hear people saying, “Meet me at The Hub.”

Now that sounds like a place I would be anxious to see.
