For more than 10 years, the Affton Chamber of Commerce has given back to families in need during the holidays with its Helping Hands fund.
“We ask the schools and churches who belong to the chamber for the names of any families who had a little bad luck during the year and we provide gift cards to grocery stores and discount stores to help them have a nicer holiday,” Ed Jardon, committee co-chair, stated in a news release. “We provide an anonymous list of families with the age of the children and their wish lists to our members and several businesses adopt a family and provide many of the items on their wish list.”
Chamber officials hope the community can help this year as 11 families in need have 19 school-age children. One family is in need of a replacement refrigerator.
Cash, discount store and grocery store gift cards are accepted. If any company would like to donate items on someone’s wish list, a representative can call (314) 849-6499 for some ideas.
