David Gerard Gavwiner Sr., 54, died Feb. 3 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Born in St. Louis, Mr. Gavwiner resided in Oakville. He was a firefighter/paramedic captain, serving with the University City Fire Department for 26 years. He was past president of the Missouri Mules and a member of Local No. 2665 of the International Association of Fire Fighters.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Gavwiner (nee Lee); mother, Audrey Gavwiner (nee Riper); sons and daughters-in-law, David and Stephanie Gavwiner Jr., Antonio and Chelsy Gavwiner; and Ryan Gavwiner; daughter, Jennifer Gavwiner; sisters and brother-in-law, Sandy and George Grbac and Cindy Brown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Joy Lee; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Greg and Theresa Lee; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Gavwiner.

Services were at St. Gabriel the Arch-angel Church. Visitation was at Kutis South County Chapel. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.
