Crestwood resident selected for national honor

Kathleen Hummel of Crestwood has been named one of five national Classic Woman Award winners in recognition of her dedication and efforts toward specialneeds children in the St. Louis community.

This is the inaugural presentation of the Classic Women Award that will be presented annually by the Meredith Corp., a multi-media company with headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa.

Hummel and her husband, Scott, founded Our Little Haven, a not-for-profit organization serving young children and helping them recover from the tragedy of abuse and neglect through a suite of programs.

Founded in 1993 in St. Louis, Our Little Haven is based on early intervention treatment, resolving the issues of abuse and neglect early in children’s lives when the healing has a better chance of making an immediate and long-term impact.

Having served more than 800 children since its inception, Our Little Haven is na-tionally recognized for the services provided and is heralded as a hero for many special-needs children and families.

Thousands of nominations were received and judges chose the five recipients who will be honored at the national Classic Woman Award reception in New York City in late September.

The winners also will be presented with a sizable contribution for the charity of their choice.
