Crestwood Elementary nominated for national honor

Crestwood Elementary School has been nominated by the state of Missouri for the 2011 Blue Ribbon Schools Program, according to a Lindbergh Schools news release.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students.

Eight schools in Missouri have received this prestigious nomination. Crestwood is one of five schools to receive the nomination for high achievement. Three additional schools in Missouri have been nominated due to their improved student achievement.

“Today is probably the proudest day of my life, as a teacher and as a principal,” Crestwood Elementary Principal Scott Taylor stated in the release.

Taylor thanked the school’s teachers and pupils and said this nomination is the most significant honor of his 30-year career in education.

To earn the Blue Ribbon award, Crestwood Elementary School must meet federal Adequate Yearly Progress goals for student achievement in 2011.

The Blue Ribbon program is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices. Each year since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals, including those that beat the odds.
