County councilman submits revised Complete Streets bill

The County Council was set to consider final approval of a revised version of the Complete Streets bill that would add bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly features to county roads Tuesday night — after the Call went to press.

Fifth District County Councilman Pat Dolan, D-Richmond Heights, submitted a revised bill last week that updated his original proposal to reflect a variety of concerns residents had raised about the measure since he introduced it in November, including the cost and scope of improvements called for under the provisions of the plan.

The new bill gives the county Department of Highways and Traffic more authority to oversee and direct potential improvements related to Complete Streets and specifically outlines that any projects would have to fit into the county budget.

The new bill also revises mandates that county officials attend national conferences on bicycling and transportation, now saying only that officials should be encouraged to attend these conferences.
