Council eyes approval of cell tower in Oakville

The County Council could approve a 124-foot cell tower at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Oakville next week, after the Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to recommend approval.

A proposal early in the fall from RF Alternatives for the tower at 4456 Telegraph Road, directly adjacent to the St. Francis of Assisi School playground and the Oberweis ice cream shop, was held for months so the Department of Planning could study new state laws on cell towers.

With the 6th District council seat vacant, the zoning legislation for the cell tower was introduced Jan. 6 by Council Chair Pat Dolan, D-Richmond Heights.

If it was perfected Tuesday — after the Call went to press — it will be up for final approval when the council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the County Council Chambers in the Administration Building, 41 S. Central Ave., Clayton.
