Cor Jesu student to play with orchestra

The St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra will present a “Sonic Showcase” this weekend featuring the winners of its 2017 Aspiring Soloist Concerto Competition, including a Cor Jesu Academy student.

Cor Jesu senior Anna Groesch, 17, first started playing the cello 13 years ago. She is currently the co-principal cellist of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. She has competed in the Missouri All-State Orchestra for three years and participated in many other local chamber orchestras.

The concert will take place at at 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Skip Viragh Center for the Arts at Chaminade, 425 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

Anna began her Suzuki training with Mary Lou Gotman at the Community Music School of Webster University. Through CMS, she has served as principal cellist in the String Ensemble, String Orchestra, Young People’s Concert Orchestra and the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra.

She has studied chamber music and music theory in the CMS Preparatory Program for four years. During her junior and senior years, she has played in quartets sponsored by the Young Artists Program of the Chamber Music Society of St. Louis.
