Concord residents honored with volunteer service award

Concord residents Anne and Ron Oestreich recently received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for their work with hosting foreign-exchange students.

The Oestreichs were informed of receiving the award in a letter from the American Councils for International Education.

The award was created by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, according to the letter, to “thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.”

In a letter to the Oestreichs, President Barack Obama wrote, “Congratulations on receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Award, and thank you for helping to address the most pressing needs in your community and our country …

“Your volunteer service demonstrates the kind of commitment to your community that moves America a step closer to its great promise.

The couple also received a resolution from Sen. Jim Lembke.

The Oestreichs most recently hosted 16-year-old Emile Indrasiute from Siauliai, Lithuania, for nine months when she attended Cor Jesu Academy.
