Concord group brightens holidays for families

Concord Elementary School parents recently filled the fourth-grade hallway as they stacked boxes high and packed up gifts, clothing, food and personal items for 25 families in need who attend their school.

The school conducted a number of events this year to help raise money. Students also brought donations into their classrooms, with some classes collecting more than 1,000 items each.

This is the school’s second annual Adopt-a-Family program. Beginning in November, the Concord Parent Teacher Group set up “The Giving Tree,” an online tool allowing students and their families to sign up to purchase clothing, coats, pajamas, toys and other items specific to each adopted family’s needs.

Concord’s program carefully protects the privacy of each Concord recipient family.

Each child also receives a new coat, clothing, shoes, socks and underwear.
