Civil War encampment planned in Sunset Hills

The city of Sunset Hills will continue its 50th anniversary celebration this weekend with a Civil War encampment at Thomas Jefferson School, 4100 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

The festivities, which are scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, are open to the public.

Enlistment begins at 10 a.m. as participants will be recruited into the Union or Confederate army, according to a news re-lease from Butch Thomas, chairman of the Sunset Hills Anniversary Celebration.

The encampment will feature cannon firings, a Civil War hospital and “the way of the widow plus the life of Johnny Lib and Billy Yank.”

Shuttles will run from Watson Trails Park and South Technical School every 15 minutes. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the event.
