To the editor:

A simple solution to the statewide vote on the Better Together plan to merge St. Louis city and county would be to hold a referendum in the city and county.

If the voters approve it, then the local governments could lobby to get it on the ballot.

If it fails, the local governments could lobby to keep it off the ballot.

This would give the local residents a say in the matter. Simple.
