Chamber awards Leadership in Practice scholarships

The Lemay Chamber of Commerce recently awarded scholarships for the Leadership in Practice summer program to three students from area high schools.

The recipients include Bryant Woods of Hancock High School, Mary Kabbaz of Notre Dame High School and Morgan Siebert of Mehlville Senior High School.

The Leadership in Practice program, sponsored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, is designed to provide students, who will enter their sophomore year of high school in the fall, an opportunity to learn the characteristics of good leadership and apply them in realistic activities and simulations.

The local students will join 172 other top students from across the state for three days of intensive leadership training from July 8 to July 10.

License to Lead, which is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is the basis of the curriculum that will be taught by professional facilitators, as well as business and political leaders, according to a news release issued by the Lemay Chamber of Commerce.

Students are given an opportunity to apply the knowledge they gain in simulated situations and then are challenged to utilize their new skills in effective leadership roles in their high schools.
