Chalupny to be guest of honor

Olympic gold-medal soccer player Lori Chalupny will be the guest of honor at a block party sponsored by her friends and neighbors from 7 to 10 p.m. today — Sept. 4 — on Arban Drive between Brookview and Madeira in Crestwood.

Chalupny of Crestwood was a member of the 2008 U.S. Women’s Soccer Team that defeated Brazil 1-0 to win the gold medal in Bejing, China.

The 24-year-old Nerinx Hall graduate scored a goal in the semifinal game to help her team defeat Japan 4-2 and move to the gold-medal game.

Those who attend the block party can meet Chalupny and see her gold medal.

Participants can bring folding chairs and coolers, but no glass.
