A walk/run sponsored by the Commun-ities Healing Adolescent Depression and Suicide, or CHADS, Coalition for Mental Health will take place at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Atkinson Shelter at Jeffer-son Barracks Park.
Proceeds from the fund-raising CHADS Coalition for Mental Health’s 5-kilometer walk/run will benefit research for adolescent depression and suicide.
CHADS Coalition, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to advance the prevention and knowledge of adolescent suicide through research, advocacy and education in the Midwest. Co-founders Marian and Larry McCord of Oakville started the organization after their son Chad lost his battle with depression in April 2004.
The event will feature 5-kilometer course for adults and a 1-kilometer course for children. Walkers will enjoy an outing along a stroller-friendly 3-kilometer course.
Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female runners. Medals will be given to the top finishers in each male and female age division: 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59 and 60-plus. All finishers in the 1-kilometer run will receive a ribbon.
Registration by Saturday, Sept. 3, costs $15 and includes a free T-shirt. The cost after Sept. 3 is $20.
