Arla Capel, daughter of Larry and Alisa Stocks of Marion, Ill., and Burke Wasson, son of Curt and Gretchen Wasson of Harrisburg, Ill., announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

Capel of south county is a 2005 graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in political science. This year, she will receive a master’s degree in journalism at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, where she also works as a graduate assistant. Capel also is employed as the editor of Two Rivers health magazine and as a reporter for the Edwardsville (Ill.) Intelligencer.

Her fiancé, Wasson, of south county is a 2004 graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in history. He is employed as a reporter for Call Newspapers.

The couple plan a May wedding at First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, Ill., and a honeymoon in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
