Boys raise more than $1,000 for St. Jude’s

Boys raise more than $1,000 for St. Judes

Brad Rischbieter and his brother Ben, both pupils at Queen of All Saints Catholic School, have spent their summer raising money for St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Research Hospital.

So far they have raised more than $1,000 and the amount keeps growing.

Over the past few weeks the boys have had several lemonade stands with baked goods. They anticipate generating quite a bit more money with several other fund-raising ideas.

When he was 3 years old, Brad realized the needs of the children’s hospital and de-cided to donate his piggy-bank savings.

He asked that his money be spent on orange popsicles for the children.

Ever since his first donation five years ago, Brad has focused on filling his piggy bank and donating it to the hospital every February.

Last year, St. Jude’s even had an orange popsicle day honoring his request to have a fun event for the children at the hospital.

Because of the large amount of money they already have raised, hospital officials decided to let the boys choose how they would like to see the money spent.

They have decided to supply the children with Game Boy game machines and some video games to go with them. The hospital staff believed this was an excellent idea because many of the children have treatments that last for hours.

The two brothers have been invited to St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Research Hos-pital in Memphis, Tenn., this month to meet the children who currently are undergoing treatment. This also will provide a great opportunity for the boys to see what else the children would like to have to make their stay a little less painful.
