Both the girls’ volleyball teams at Oakville and Lindbergh Senior High schools experienced a high level of success this past weekend at the Southeast Missouri State University tournament in Cape Girardeau.

Each squad advanced to the tournament semifinal in which Oakville recorded a 17-25, 25-19, 20-25 loss to Farmington and Lindbergh suffered a 21-25, 19-25 setback to Notre Dame High School of St. Louis.

Though both teams did not face each other at the SEMO tournament, they did get to meet earlier in the week in which the Flyers came away with a 25-16, 23-25, 25-20 victory over the Tigers.

“It was a good win for us and Oakville is a very good team,” Lindbergh Head Coach Johnna Wieter told the Call. “I think that we’re pretty evenly matched with them.”

Yet Oakville was without the services of its top player, senior outside hitter Val Vogler, who suffered a sprained ankle Monday afternoon during practice.

“I think that we held our own against Lindbergh,” Oakville Head Coach Becky Czuppon told the Call. “Lindbergh’s got a really strong group of kids. With Val being out, we had a couple of kids playing different positions. Val’s such a strong leader and is an asset to have out there on the court.”

Oakville returns to play this Friday evening as they play host to Rockwood Summit in a key match in the Tigers’ quest for a Suburban South Conference championship.

The Falcons are led by junior outside hitter Lindsay Allman who leads Summit in aces (15), attacks (238), kills (72) and digs (150).

“Lindsay is a big player for them (Summit),” Czuppon said. “I think that our blocking and defense will definitely help us against them.”

Lindbergh also heads back to action this Friday evening as the Flyers travel to Kirk-wood for an important Suburban West Con-ference contest.

“I haven’t seen Kirkwood play all year,” Wieter explained. “I just think that we need to keep playing good defense and be consistent in order to play well.”

The Oakville/Summit match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start on Friday, while the Lindbergh/Kirkwood contest is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
