Board adjusts elementary school boundaries

The Mehlville Board of Education voted unanimously March 25 to adjust the district’s elementary school boundaries for new enrollees to alleviate overcrowding at Oakville Elementary School.

The redistricting would send new pupils starting in the 2010-2011 school year who live north of Forder Road roughly within the borders of Kinswood Lane and Chateau DeVille Drive to Beasley Elementary instead of Oakville Elementary.

Oakville Elementary’s desired capacity is 420 pupils, but 464 currently are enrolled.

While Beasley Elementary’s desired capacity is 400 pupils, 320 currently attend.

“It’s not an immediate solution, but over time it probably has the potential to move 50 to 55 students out of Oakville Elementary into Beasley Elementary,” Superintendent Terry Noble said.
