Blair, Bozdeck lead Lindbergh to victory

Behind 17-point performances from Keonia Blair and Emily Bozdeck, the Lindbergh High School girls’ basketball team rolled to a 64-51 victory last week over St. Clair to win the championship game at the Seckman Holiday Tournament.

The Dec. 30 win for the Flyers (9-0, 3-0 Suburban West) marked the first time that Lindbergh had given up more than 45 points to an opponent this season.

“I think that as a team, we’re getting better,” Lindbergh head coach Bill Thoele told the Call. “We’re getting more people to contribute, which helps relieve some pressure from Brittany Casey. We’re getting a lot more scoring from different people right now.”

Blair complemented her 17-point showing with six assists and one rebound. The sophomore guard is averaging 9.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

“Keonia’s starting to create more opportunities for herself by being more aggressive to the hole,” Thoele said. “Over the last three games, she’s been playing really well.”

Bozdeck’s 17 points also included a whopping 15 rebounds and one assist. The senior center is averaging 7.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

“Emily finally started shooting a little more,” Thoele said. “All she needed was a little more confidence in her offensive ability.”

The Flyers are back in action at 7 p.m. Friday when they travel to Houston to face the Tigers. Lindbergh then will travel to West Plains for a 1 p.m. Saturday contest with the Zizzers.
