Fans of the bicycle shop South County Cyclery will be disappointed to learn that its South County location has permanently closed after the COVID-19 pandemic.
South County Cyclery used to operate three bike shops across the St. Louis area prior to the pandemic under owner Tony Blackwood and his wife, Donna, including Trans Am Cyclery in Farmington, South County Cyclery on Lin Ferry Road and the original shop on Gravois Road in south St. Louis city.
When the pandemic hit, the business consolidated out of the city location before the owner sold the city and South County location in 2020 to retire. The city store, South Side Cyclery, is now under new owners, Tim “Tik” Kakouris and his wife, Deanna, according to an employee who spoke with The Call. The new owners did not respond to requests for comment for this article.
Blackwood’s son, “LT,” operates Trans Am Cyclery in Farmington.
The South County location is now under construction to become a lab testing facility, LabTest LLC, after the Green Park Board of Aldermen approved the plan in April. LabTest will move from its location along Tesson Ferry Road in Concord.
Editor’s note: This online article has been corrected from the June 24 print edition of the St. Louis Call to clarify that Trans Am Cyclery in Farmington is still open.
