Backyard carnival raises funds to battle cancer

Backyard carnival raises funds to battle cancer

More than 50 people recently attended the third annual ‘Backyard Carnival’ to raise money to combat cancer that was sponsored by members of the Brian and Susan Foster family in Oakville, including 12-year-old Brandon, 8-year-old Madison, 6-year-old Bailey and their cousin, 14-year-old Elizabeth Shaner. Games, prizes, and refreshments were donated by family and friends. The Fosters asked a $5-per-family donation to attend the carnival in honor of Susan Foster’s mother, who died from colon cancer in April 2001. All donations went to the American Cancer Society. During the 2.5-hour carnival, $500 was raised. The Foster family added $400 to that amount and a matching gifts program Brian Foster’s company will match that $900. Through a special corporate matching program that the American Cancer Society has right now, that $900 also will be matched by Walgreens. With all the matches, a total donation of $2,700 will be made to the American Cancer Society. Most of the children who attended the carnival are shown above.
