The Lindbergh High School Astronomy Club invites the community to rise early to view the Venus Transit Tuesday, June 8.
At about 6 a.m. — sunrise — the planet Venus will be visible as a small, inky-black dark spot crossing the sun. Venus can be seen crossing the sun through the club’s telescope with a special solar filter.
The viewing will take place on the Lindbergh High School soccer field, 4900 S. Lindbergh Blvd., on the rear of the high school campus.
Jim Denner, Astronomy Club sponsor and Lindbergh science teacher, will be on hand to discuss the Venus Transit, and will point out other stars of interest in the morning sky. It is worth missing an hour of sleep to view Venus, because this event occurs only every 120 years or so, according to a district news release.
