Annual Call contest receives some moving nominations

Area youngsters touched our hearts again this year with letters nominating their mother as Mother of the Year.

Since 1990, the Call has been honoring mothers whose families believe they deserve special distinction and most of the entries have the same theme.

“My mother is the strongest person I know and even with cancer she is the best mother I could ask for,” wrote 15-year-old Cory Nolte.

Besides the love and appreciation that typified the 45 essays submitted this year, more than 30 expressed a desire to “give back” to their mothers for their sacrifice and devotion.

“She makes the best biscuits and gravy for dinner,” 10-year-old Katie Henrichs wrote.

“I wanna give her something in return for helping me through hard times,” 12-year-old Tamra Grady wrote.
