Annual awards to be presented Feb. 15 by Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber

The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Chamber of Commerce will honor its 2004 Business Person of the Year and its 2004 Citizen of the Year later this month.

Mary L. James has been named the Business Person of the Year and Franklin Donald Maddox has been named Citizen of the Year, according to the chamber’s Board of Directors.

Other awards will be presented Tuesday, Feb. 15, to Rocky Bossert and Mark A. Figert, the chamber’s Co-Rookies of the Year, and to Gordmans, winner of the chamber’s Community Improvement Award.

James is the owner and founder of UNIGLOBE Professional Travel. Before founding the company in 1993, she was teacher for the Ladue School District from 1961 to 1992.

James earned a doctorate degree from St. Louis University in education, curriculum and instruction. She was chamber president in 1999 and has served on the chamber’s Ambassador and Community/Member Development committees for eight years.

James is a member of Kirkwood Bus-iness Networkers International and a member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ, where she has served as president of the Board of Christian Education and president of the Church Council.

Maddox serves as a Ward 3 alderman for the city of Crestwood and is a member of the city’s Ways and Means and Public Works committees.

He previously served on Crestwood’s Board of Adjustment. A longtime member of the Crestwood Sunset Hills Rotary Club, Maddox actively participates in the Gravois Township Republican Committee.

Bossert joined the Coldwell Banker Gundaker office in Kennerly Center after obtaining her real estate license in Feb-ruary 2003.

Her background includes wholesale building distributor, cabinet shop and secretary.

Bossert’s involvement with the chamber includes serving on the Community/Mem-ber Development Committee and as chair of the Awards Banquet and Blood Drive.

Figert founded Fidelity Mortgage Capital in 2003. A member of St. Louis Associ-ation of Realtors, he previously was em-ployed by Citadel Group in Chicago and Midwest Mortgage Capital in St. Louis.

Figert serves on the chamber’s Board of Directors and is president-elect. He also serves on the Community/Member Devel-opment Committee.

Gordmans, 9490 Watson Road, opened its 60,000-square-foot Crestwood location in October.

Gordmans donated more than $5,100 to the Lindbergh School District during a Part-ners in Education fund-raising event in conjunction with the grand-opening festivities.

The chamber’s awards luncheon will take place Feb. 15 at the Holiday Inn Southwest — the Viking Conference Center. A reception will begin at 11:15 a.m. and lunch will be at 12:15 p.m. The cost is $15. Call (314) 843-8545 to make a reservation.
