Affton School District responds to student death

The Affton School District is deeply saddened by the tragedy that claimed the life of Christopher Marks, according to a statement issued by the school district.

Authorities on Tuesday identified a body found in the Meramec River as that of the 12-year-old boy, who disappeared Sunday evening.

Chris would have been a seventh-grader at Rogers Middle School. The district is working closely with the St. Louis County Police Department, counselors and staff members, who are working collectively to support students and their families.

“While this has been an extremely difficult situation, I am proud and appreciative of how our teachers and staff have pulled together to support the needs of our students. Our parents and the Affton School District community have been extremely supportive,” Rogers Middle School Principal Jeff Remelius stated. “We will continue to offer counseling and student assistance as we begin the school year next week.”
