The Affton High School girls’ 200-freestyle relay team broke the school record by 1.4 seconds with a time of 2:04.60 this week.
Swimming at Wednesday’s conference meet at Ladue Horton Watkins High School were sophomore Katie McAlister, sophomore Anna Pyne, senior Lydia McCurren and senior Madeline Mullins.
The previous school record, set in 2008, was 2:06.00.
“Going into the meet, the girls were 17 hundredths of a second away from breaking the record, so we had high hopes,” stated Jane Bohn, who coaches the Affton girls’ swim team along with Paul Hoggatt. “Breaking the record required each swimmer to give their best performance of the year. It’s a huge accomplishment and we are so proud of them.
“They made it their goal to break the record and their hard work paid off last night.”
