Affton Community Days set for Sept. 15

This year’s Affton Community Days is set for Sept. 15 with the theme, “Affton Goes on Vacation.”

The event, previously called the Affton Days Parade and Festival, begins with a 10 a.m. parade at Affton High School. The parade will travel south on Mackenzie to Gravois, east on Gravois to Heege and end at the St. George Catholic Church parking lot, 4980 Heege.

The Affton and Bayless school district bands will perform.

Booths on the festival grounds will begin operation at 11 a.m. and a little before noon festivities will officially begin with 6th District County Councilman Steve Stenger singing the National Anthem. The festival ends at 9 p.m.

Many favorites from past years will be entertaining:

Noon – Juggling Jeff, a high energy, face paced, comedic juggling show

1 p.m. – My Side of the Story, a rock band comprised of six children ranging in age from 10 to 13. Through their participation in the Rock Band Program at RockShow Academy, they learn how to play their instruments, relate and work together as a group and play fun songs by artists ranging from The Beatles to Boston to Katy Perry

1:30 p.m. – Memories of Elvis with Steve Davis

2:30 p.m. — Magician Joe Fingerhut with Abra-Kid-Abra.

3:30 to 5 p.m. — Adam’s Apple, a local band of young musicians, will perform from near the Beer Garden.

5 to 9 p.m. — SMASH Band will perform on the main stage.

The chamber booth will have coffee cups, beverage mugs, T-shirts with the new Affton Community Days logo and 60th anniversary custom playing cards for sale. They will also have Steak/Freezer raffle tickets for sale for a freezer and 100 steaks from Kenrick’s Meats & Catering. The $5 tickets for the chamber fund raiser currently are available at the chamber office and at Kenrick’s.

The winning ticket will be drawn at 8 p.m. by SMASH. The winner does not have to be present to win, but chamber officials encourage those who purchased tickets to be there for the drawing.

Parade entries are free and the entry form for both the parade and the festival are found on the chamber website
