Affton church offers free Thanksgiving meal

Affton Christian Church, 9625 Tesson Ferry Road, will provide a free Thanksgiving dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24.

The Rev. David Woodard, lead pastor of the church, stated in a news release, “This is the third year we are offering this free meal to the community. Given the shape of our economy, we know that many people are struggling right now.”

More than 200 people participated in the event last year. This year, the church is preparing to serve 300 meals to those in Affton and adjacent communities.

The outreach is designed to help those who are struggling financially as well as those who find themselves alone on this holiday.

“In addition to helping those who are hurting financially, we are finding more and more people who simply don’t want to be alone on Thanksgiving. Feeding the hungry and building community is part of our church’s mission,” Woodard stated.

For those who are homebound or for whom transportation is an issue, a limited area of delivery and/or pickup is available upon request. No reservation is needed.
