Administration proves more cuts could be made before tax hike needed

In Burke Wasson’s March 5 article headlined “Board wants to inform citizens about proposed spending cuts,” he quotes Crestwood Mayor Roy Robinson’s thoughts about those who opposed Proposition 1  last August.

The mayor stated that those who were against the 35-cent tax-rate increase had said that the city had plenty of money, what they had was being misused and “all this other stuff” and that belief “was false then and it’s false now.”

If that is true, Mr. Mayor, how come the city now is projecting budgets for 2010 through 2013 that will have an average annual reduction in spending of $2.28 million?

It would seem that the more than 70 percent of the voters who voted against Prop 1 were correct in believing what you have called false.

More cuts could be made before the citizens of Crestwood needed to pay higher taxes. Your own administration has now shown that to be the truth with their budgets for 2010 through 2013.
